The challenge was to design a striking advent calendar and gift packaging series for the beauty brand Lumene, reflecting the brand’s Nordic identity while standing out during the holiday season. Rather than traditional Christmas themes, the focus was on vibrant, winter-inspired illustrations celebrating Lumene’s signature natural ingredients, such as cloudberries, lingonberries, and birch sap.

The advent calendar’s cover features a serene Northern Lights scene, symbolizing light in darkness, while inside, colorful illustrations of frosty berries and plants reveal a world of life waiting to bloom. Rooted in the concept of 'Magic Under the Surface,' the illustrations reveal nature’s hidden vitality – how plants gather strength beneath the snow for the seasons ahead – mirroring Lumene’s ethos of harnessing the power of Arctic light and botanicals.

The gift packaging series follows a similar theme, with each design inspired by the shifting light from dusk to dawn, evoking the quiet magic of the first snow. By placing frost-covered plants and berries at the forefront, the illustrations reinforce the idea of resilience and the beauty of Nordic nature.

To enhance the sense of winter magic, the final design incorporates glossy holographic and foiled elements, reminiscent of ice and frost, contrasting with the detailed, hand-painted and digitally crafted illustrations. This textured, dynamic effect captures attention during the darkest time of the year, making Lumene’s packaging an eye-catching presence on crowded holiday shelves.
